Maharashtra MLA Nitesh Rane and his supporters who poured buckets of mud on an NHAI engineer over the condition of a highway were on Friday sent to police custody till July 9.

The police have charged Rane and others with sections pertaining to obstructing a government servant, abuse, assault.FIR was registered against Rane and 40-50 supporters under Sections 353, 342, 332, 324, 323, 120(A), 147, 143, 504, 506 of IPC.

Nitesh Rane is the son of former Maharashtra chief minister Narayan Rane. Narayan Rane said that he would ask his son to apologise. " Why wouldn't I ask him to apologise? He is my son. If a father can apologise for no fault of his, a son will have to apologise," senior Rane said.

 Rane expressed no regret. He said 'Now, I will oversee the repair work on this highway myself, with a stick in my hand. Every day at 7 am, I'll reach here. Let me see how the system wins. We have the medicine to tackle their arrogance.'
