Congress president Rahul Gandhi has reportedly sent a team to visit Amethi in Uttar Pradesh in order to find out the reason behind his defeat from BJP leader Smriti Irani from the parliamentary constituency which was a stronghold of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

The team reportedly comprises of AICC secretary Zubair Khan and Congress Raebareli in-charge KL Sharma. Both leaders have been directed asked to submit a report for the reason for the loss.

Till 2009, Sharma was responsible for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat when he was replaced by Chandrakant, a party worker from Madhya Pradesh. Sharma now manages the Raebareli parliamentary seat, which is re-won by chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

In the recently-ended Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi lost to Smriti Irani by over 55,000 votes from the Amethi seat.
