Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday drove to senior BJP leader and former finance minister, Arun Jaitley's house in order to ask him to reconsider his decision and remain in the government. The meeting reportedly lasted for nearly 25 minutes in which PM Modi enquired about Mr Jaitley health. This visit comes as a response to Jaitley writing to the PM, excusing himself from any responsibility in the coming months, as he is under doctors' orders to take care of his health. He also tweeted a copy of the letter on his official twitter handle.

Jaitley is a former lawyer and one of the three main members of BJP after Modi and Amit Shah. He has been a staunch supporter of the party in the last term and even supported some of its controversial policies. When he took over the office in 2014, Modi handed him the responsibility of three departments, Finance, Defense, and information and broadcasting. Jaitley is a diabetic and his health issues worsened after his kidney transplant in May 2018. He also had to skip the interim budget in February when he was in hospital in the US for treatment
