Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Saturday offered to resign from the post of Congress state unit chief in the wake of the party's drubbing in the recently-concluded general elections.

Congress President Kamal Nath sent his resignation to Rahul Gandhi. Uttar Pradesh Congress President Raj Babbar has already submitted his resignation to Rahul.

Akhil Bharatiya Congress Committee general secretary Deepak Babaria has said that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has offered his resignation from the post of President of the state Congress. Deepak Babaria said, 'CM Kamal Nath has offered his resignation from the post of president of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee.'

There are 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh but in the state, the Congress party has not achieved any success except for 1 seat.

Earlier Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi had taken the moral responsibility of the party's defeat and offered to resign from the post of the Congress Working Committee. However, the Congress Working Committee had refused Rahul Gandhi's resignation.

Apart from Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other members of the Working Committee attended the meeting of the Working Committee. Congress's performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections has been disappointing. The party has managed to win only 52 seats.
