The regional party newly formed by social rights activist Irom Sharmila released its party manifesto in the state capital, Imphal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Manipur. The party Manifesto took a clear stand on demilitarisation of state, the fight that Irom Sharmila has been fighting for decades. The party manifesto demanded to repeal the Armed Forces Special Act from the state.
PRJA- Peoples Resurgence and Justice Alliance are presently contesting from three seats in the state of Manipur. The party Convener Erendro Leichobam said that although they will not be able to form the government this term, the party Manifesto would act as a vision document for the next assembly elections in 2022.
The manifesto demanded reservation of women in all elected offices and to establish a Lokayukta to monitor corruption charges.
Irom Sharmila broke her fast only last year, after 16 years and entered politics and formed the PRJA. She stated that her sole agenda to fight assembly elections is the successful withdrawal of AFSPA from Manipur.
PRJA convener Erendro Leichobam We are fighting against AFSPA and that fight will continue but apart from that we feel there is a need to set up Lokayukta to look into corruption cases and towards creating a corruption-free Manipur”.
