Singer Hans Raj Hans was today named as one of the seven BJP candidates for Delhi. Hans Raj Hans has been picked for North West Delhi instead of Udit Raj, who had threatened to resign if he was dropped. Hans Raj Hans, a popular Punjabi folk and Sufi singer, joined the BJP in 2016 after quitting the Congress. He once was a member of the Akali Dal.

Hans Raj Hans, who made a mark in the world of Sufi singing started his political career in 2009 with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). He contested elections from Punjab 's Jalandhar seat. After this, he had joined the Congress in February 2016, leaving the Akali Dal's claim to 2014. After this, on December 10, 2016, he joined BJP. 

Singer Hansraj was born in a very poor Dalit family. He has earned his name in the world of singing after years of struggle. Padmashree  Hansraj Hans joined BJP in the year 2016. 

The announcement has come on a day when voting for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019 is underway. The general election is currently being held in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. The counting of votes will be conducted on 23 May, and on the same day, the results will be declared.
