Responding to the BJP's commitment to abrogating Article 370 and 35A of the Constitution, National Conference Chairman Farooq Abdullah said on Monday that this move will pave the way for 'freedom' in Kashmir.

In the manifesto issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah, it has been said that if the party comes to power, then it will abrogate both paragraphs. Responding to this, Abdullah said in the election meeting here, 'Do they think that they will repeal Article 370 and we will sit quietly? They are thinking wrong."

They said, 'We will fight against it, I think that it is Allah's will that they are trying to abrogate it, let them do this and it will pave the way for our freedom.' Many such PILs have been filed in the Supreme Court, in which Article 370 and 35 A have been challenged.

While Article 370 gives Jammu and Kashmir a state of special status, Article 35A gives the State Assembly the right to define the citizens and their rights. The BJP said in the manifesto, 'We are committed to repeal Article 35A of the Constitution, which provides for discrimination against non-permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir.'
