Congress President Rahul Gandhi has filed his nomination from Kerala's Wayanad seat. During this, he was accompanied by Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, K.C. Venugopal and Mukul Wasnik, along with senior Congress leaders. In the District Headquarters, he handed over the documents to District Collector AR Ajayakumar.

In view of the high profile visit of Congress chief, tight security arrangements were made around the Collectorate office. Prior to this, Gandhi, Priyanka and other leaders had arrived here through a special helicopter, which was landed near a school ground.

Mr Gandhi was welcomed by thousands of party workers, including women and youth, waved party slogans and shouted slogans. After filing nomination, Rahul Gandhi went on a roadshow in an open vehicle with Priyanka Gandhi.

Mukul Wasnik said that people of Wayanad parliamentary constituency are very excited about the candidacy of Rahul Gandhi. Speaking with the media, Wasnik said that the entire Congress Party and UDF had invited Rahul to contest elections from Kerala. 

Taking to Twitter, Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East urged the people of Wayanad to "take care" of her brother.

"My brother, my truest friend, and by far the most courageous man I know. Take care of him Wayanad, he won't let you down," Priyanka Gandhi tweeted.
