Taking a dig at PM Modi’s "Main Bhi Chowkidar" campaign for the National elections, Congress president Rahul Gandhi today referred to the Rafale jet deal asking why all BJP leaders are adding chowkidar to their names when "you (PM Modi) are stealing everything.

Since its launch on Saturday, #MainBhiChowkidar has received nearly two million tweets. The campaign came as a response to Rahul Gandhi’s trolling of “Chowkidar Chor hai” (Watchman is the thief). Modi was the first to add “Chowkidar” to his username which was then followed by the rest of the leaders including Party President, Amit Shah

"When you (Modi) are stealing everything, why you have made all your leaders chowkidar?" Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a public rally in Arunachal Pradesh.

Gandhi alleged that the "chowkidar" himself had been exposed in the Rafale deal while asking that when chowkidar himself turns a thief, how will the country progress.

Congress contends that BJP government had finalized an overpriced deal for 36 Rafale fighter jets at an inflated price to benefit industrialist Anil Ambani, whose rookie defense firm was recommended as an offset partner for Dassault, the company manufacturing the aircraft. However, both the government and the Ambani group have rejected the charge.

Gandhi's criticism of the "Main Bhi Chowkidar" campaign was rejected and slammed by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad who said that those who are on bail or have a lot to hide are opposing it.
