A biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's life will be released next month, just in time for elections.

Omung Kumar, the director took to Twitter to announce the news:

"Proud to announce the release date of my film #PMNarendraModi 12th April 2019,"

The cast includes Vivek Oberoi playing the title character along with other actors like Boman Irani, Zarina Wahab etc.  

The film industry has produced a lot politically tinged however, with the election year will be seeing more partisan films than ever.

"The film will show the journey of Narendra Damodardas Modi from his humble beginnings as a tea-seller to his years as Gujarat Chief Minister and eventually as the Prime Minister.

Mr. Kumar is also the director of the biopic of Mary Kom, India's leading Olympic boxer. 

January 2019 saw the release of "Uri: The Surgical Strike" which celebrated the Indian army's strikes on terrorists in 2016 in response to a terror attack that had killed 19 soldiers. It has the highest collection of the year by far. PM Modi was widely praised for the surgical strikes operation. 

 

Besides Uri, other politically-themed movies released this year include "The Accidental Prime Minister", (based on a book about former PM Manmohan Singh), Thackeray", (biopic about Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray) and a newly released and the newly released “Mere Pyaare Prime Minister” directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra
