Congress President Rahul Gandhi is going to start his 2019 election campaign from the same Lal Dungri village in Dharampur of Gujarat on Thursday, from where his grandmother Indira Gandhi in 1980, his father Rajiv Gandhi in 1984 and her mother Sonia Gandhi in 2004 had started.

The party believes that the launch of the election campaign from Lal Dungri will be auspicious and doing so could lead the Congress government to the Centre. At the same time, many remote villages in this South Gujarat region recognize the Congress symbol and remember the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Also, the historical significance of Congress is connected to this area. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), familiar with this has organized a cluster meeting of the party with more than 4,000 party workers in Dharampur on Wednesday, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis one day before Rahul's rally.

In his Thursday rally, it is expected that  Rahul Gandhi will raise the issue of land acquisition for a bullet train in this area because the project is resentful against the farmers who are losing their fertile fields. This matter is now awaiting a decision in the Gujarat High Court.
