The Bollywood Dream girl- turned Politician, Hema Malini had been a part of the upper house of the Parliament, the Rajya Sabha from 2003-2009 being nominated by the then-President, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. Then, in the 2014 general elections, she contested for BJP and defeated Mathura's incumbent Jayant Chaudhary from RLD by 3,30,743 votes and went to LokSabha.

Now in 2019, she has decided to contest from Mathura again. She has promised the people of her constituency that she would contribute in “Modernising” the Mathura Railway Junction.

She said she would request Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to introduce a train between Mathura and Lucknow as it would benefit the pilgrims coming from eastern Uttar Pradesh.

It has been reported that the modernization of Mathura Junction would cost of Rs 20 crore. Facilities like escalators, two lifts, foot-over Bridge at Baad station, solar system, renovation of waiting rooms, widening of entry at Gate Number One have been undertaken at a cost of Rs 8 crore.

The actress has been associated with quite a few social causes like PETA India, an organization which supports Animal rights.
