Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday expressed his shock at the fatal incident of the murder of a three-year-old girl in Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and demanded swift action against the killers.

He took to Twitter to speak about the issue:

"The horrific murder of a little girl in Aligarh UP has shocked and disturbed me. How can any human being treat a child with such brutality? This terrible crime must not go unpunished. The UP police must act swiftly to bring the killers to justice.”

Along with him, his sister and Party’s general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also tweeted about the inhuman crime:

"The brutal murder in Aligarh is yet another inhuman, unspeakable crime against an innocent child. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain her parents must feel. What has become of us?" She then retweeted her statement adding a note in Hindi:

"The inhuman and heinous incident with Aligarh's innocent child has shaken. What kind of society are we making? Thinking of what is going on the child's parents, the heart gets hurt. The criminals should be severely punished."

According to the Aligarh police, a mutilated body of a girl was found in a garbage dump on 2nd June and it sparked suspicions that the brutal killing was a fallout of a monetary dispute. The girl had been missing since 31st May. Two people have been arrested in connection with the crime and police said they will charge the duo under the National Security Act.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police, Akash Kulhari, the post-mortem examination confirmed the girl died because of strangulation and ruled out sexual assault. Security in the area has been tightened in the light of the incident.
