The Election Commission of India called the polls that were held on April 18th at a polling station in Puducherry as "void". Repolling will be held in polling station no-10 in Kamaraj Nagar assembly segment of the Puducherry Parliamentary constituency. In an order, yesterday, the EC stated that the re-polling will be held on May 12th between 7 am to 6 pm.

An order from the EC to the Returning Officer of Puducherry read, "After taking all material circumstances into account, the Election Commission hereby declares under Sub-Sections (2) of Section 58 of clause (b) under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 that the poll taken on April 18, 2019, at Polling Station No. 10 of 10-Kamraj Nagar Assembly Segment of Puducherry parliamentary constituency to be void."

The EC has directed the Returning Officer to make sure that wide publicity is given in the polling areas to the matter. It has also ordered the official to let the political parties and contesting candidates know about the fresh poll.

On Tuesday, the Election Commission declared ''void'', polls held at 168 polling stations in Tripura West parliamentary constituency on April 11th ordering a re-polling on May 12th.

Puducherry voted on April 18th.
