The farmers of Telangana and Tamil Nadu are preparing to contest the elections against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi and are hopeful that more than 100 farmers can file nominations from there. The farmers have taken this step due to the neglect of farmers affairs by the BJP and Congress leaders of the government.

PK Deivasigamani, president of the Indian Turmeric Farmers Association said that he is preparing to file his nomination papers before April 19th. They informed that the issue of farmers has always been kept aside by the big political parties. Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party governments have always looked down at the farmers. They want to raise their issues and therefore 50 farmers from Tamil Nadu and 50 farmers from Telangana will go to Varanasi and file their nominations.

Farmers in Telangana, Nizamabad constituency had expressed their displeasure with the government regarding the support price of turmeric by filing their nomination papers and contesting against incumbent MP Kavitha of Nizamabad. A total of 170 farmers filed nominations in Nizamabad, Telangana.

Such a possibility is now being seen in Benaras and it is reported that if more than 100 farmers went to file nomination papers, then a situation like Nizamabad, Telangana can also happen in Varanasi.
