All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaision Friday alleged that the BJP is insulting police officers like Hemant Karkare, who is a martyr in a 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
Owaisi tweeted, "Hemant Karkare died fighting people not very different from yourself", " He didn’t die because a terror accused ‘felt bad’ & ‘cursed’ him. The man died fighting to protect our rights to vote & elect a government. How DARE BJP insult our martyrs like this?"
Pragya, the main accused in the Malegaon bomb blast case of 2008, has alleged that Karkare had wrongly trapped him in the case. Karkare was investigating the matter in which six people were killed and more than 100 were injured. Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) arrested Pragya and members of the Hindu extremist group on October 24, 2008.
A month later, Karkare was martyred while competing against terrorists who attacked Mumbai. In May 2106, the National Investigation Agency gave a clean chit to Pragya in the charge sheet filed in the Malegaon blast case. She was later granted bail on health grounds.
Owaisi criticized the BJP for granting a terrorist accused a ticket. He said, "The BJP has reassigned a terrorist accused, and this is their routine political strategy.
