(First image is fake and second is the original tweet by the Govt of Pakistan)

The Lok Sabha election has started and all social media platforms are trying their best to curb the spread of fake news however, a new misleading post went viral on Facebook and Twitter. The posts contain a photo showing opposition politicians, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, and West Bengal CM, Mamata Banerjee, Punjab Minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu and BJP-turned-Congress MP for Shatrughan Sinha waiting to meet Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan at his official residence in Islamabad.

However, the Indian News Channel, NDTV checked out the pictures and their sources and revealed that the pictures were fake and were doctored from an original photo of a meeting between Pakistan’s Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Khan on April 2nd, 2019.
The misleading image has been shared more than 4,500 times since it was published on April 7th, 2019 in a Facebook post which shows the opposition politicians sitting in the corner of a room waiting while the Pakistani PM talks to the country's army chief.

The misleading post’s caption says in Kannada: “If you vote for Congress, you’re voting for Pakistan. Look at the picture, the slaves of Pakistan are sitting in the corner.”

The doctored image also appears to show Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal offering namaz outside the window.

However, a Google reverse image search found the photo has been doctored from an original image posted on the Government of Pakistan’s official Twitter page @pid_gov on April 4, 2019.

The caption in Urdu along with the original image translates as: “Prime Minister Imran Khan met Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. They exchanged views on important security-related issues during the meeting.”

The original image was widely used by the Pakistani media in their coverage of the meeting.

Meanwhile, on 4th April, in reality, Rahul Gandhi visited Kerala’s Wayanad district to submit his election nomination papers to local authorities.

He Tweeted about his visit along with pictures:

I am overwhelmed by the love and affection of the people of Wayanad in Kerala, where I filed my nomination today for the Lok Sabha. Thank you for your support & warm welcome!

I also want to wish the journalists injured in a mishap during our road show a speedy recovery.
