Shatrughan Sinha, on Saturday formally joined the Congress party. The four-term parliamentarian has been fielded as the Congress candidate from Patna Sahib and will be contesting against BJP nominee Ravi Shankar Prasad, who is also Union Law Minister.

Sinha said that he will contest from Patna Sahib on a Congress ticket in this year’s polls. He said that media personnel were forced to sing BJP’s tune under Modi and Shah.

He tweeted saying "It's with a heavy heart and immense pain that I finally bid adieu to my old party, for reasons best known to all of us, on 6th April, which also happens to be the Sansthapna Diwas of BJP. I don't hold any ill will for our people as they were like my family and I was groomed in"

He further tweeted"this party with the guidance and blessings of the stalwarts like Bharat Ratna Nanaji Deshmukh, late and great PM #atalbiharivajpayee and of course, our friend philosopher, ultimate leader, guru & guide, Sri. L.K #Advani. I would like to include some of those who've not lived up"

Sinha has been a fierce critic of Modi and his policies. The BJP had recently denied him a ticket from Patna Sahib, from where he had won decisively in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
