Congress Chief, Rahul Gandhi had recently announced that if his party will come to power he will ensure a minimum income to the poor. A few days after the big announcement, he has promised a loan waiver to all the farmers across the nation.

"Loan waiver will be granted to all the farmers across the country if the Congress comes to power," Rahul Gandhi said at a rally in Patna on Sunday in the presence of ally Tejashwi Yadav, Sharad Yadav and other opposition leaders from the state.

He added that the PM had insulted the farmers of Bihar and the rest of the country. "If you insult the farmers, then the farmers will give you an answer. Farmers are saying 'we want Congress, not the BJP'," he said.

The promise of loan waivers had worked quite well for Congress in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in the recent assembly elections.

The relief to farmers is seen as a priority by the parties before the Elections. The announcement came two days after the government announced Rs. 6000 per annum for the farmers with less than 2-hectare land in the interim budget. Today,

After the Big announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke against the party saying, “The Congress, he said, had come to power on a loan waiver promise 10 years ago, but had "fooled" everyone.

He added that while the loan amount was known to be 6 lakh crore, it later turned out to be 52,000 crores. When the Comptroller and Auditor General investigated, they found out some 30 to 35 lakh people were not even worthy of this loan, the PM said.
